You can use the vertical bar or a forward slash to mark measures. Just make sure that you leave a space on each side of the '|' or '/' as in the following:

C | Em | C | G D | C | G | D7

ChordSmith treats this as you would hope. But Chord doesn't handle it well.

An alternative is to mark the line as a "Tab", like this:

{sot}
C | Em | C | G D | C | G | D7
{eot}

This basically means that the two programs will treat them literally. But, ChordSmith will transpose tab lines like that when you call for transposing a song, so they stay in sync.

Chord will not transpose tab lines. But it will keep your prettyprinting within a Tab. So that's a tradeoff you'll have to decide on. Actually, it's probably better to do any transposing in ChordSmith before sending the song off to Chord.

I do not know how other programs, such as OnSong or other such apps will handle the strokes.
